I am reflecting on the quote "Yam stood for manliness, and he who could feed his family on yams from one harvest to another was a very great man indeed." The yam seems to be the bread and butter or Umuofia. It reminds me of corn almost. The quote is also closly related to work ethics. Someone who does good work and can feed his family is a good and respected man. I like the simplicity of their lives. The goal is to grow good crops and please the gods, and that is it. The men grew the yams and did took the credit while the women cooked the yams. Now yam is just a potatoe like thing that no one eats but that makes it an even more interesting culture.
